Dr. New is an Assistant Professor at Wake Forest School of Medicine Department of Academic Nursing. She completed her DNP in 2020 and her project was "Implementation of a Pilot Peer Support Program at Atrium Health Cabarrus Anesthesia and Surgical Services Department". She graduated from the CMC School of Nurse Anesthesia in 1995 and completed her MSN in 1996. She serves as leadership advisor to at Atrium Health Enterprise for organizational implementation of peer support programming. She serves as a State Peer Advisor for North Carolina for the NCANA and is co-chair of the state Peer Assistance and Wellness Committees. She has spoken locally, regionally, state and national level on the topics of Second Victim Phenomenon, Peer Support Programming, burnout, and other wellness related threats. She served as part of a focus group for the American Hospital Association in 2022 on peer programming and suicide prevention, and this year, the Suicide Prevention in the Healthcare Workforce Learning Collaborative with the AHA. She recently completed instructor training for QPR (suicide) and will be incorporating that training into the peer support training at Atrium Health.
