Terry Wicks is a 1981 graduate of the University of Iowa, College of Nursing. Terry received his anesthesia education while serving in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. Dr. Wicks graduated from the Anesthesiology for Nurse Corps Officers Course in 1986 and in conjunction received a Master of Health Science degree from Texas Wesleyan University. Returning to the University of Iowa as a graduate student in 2016, Terry graduated from the Master to Doctor of Nursing Practice program in the summer of 2018.
During his career, Dr. Wicks has served in leadership roles on numerous North Carolina Association of Nurse Anesthetists and American Association of Nurse Anesthetists [AANA] committees and task forces. Terry was elected to the AANA Board of Directors in 2002 and served as AANA President in 2006-07. Terry completed his tenure on the NBCRNA Board of Directors in the fall of 2022. As a member of the NBCRNA’s Evaluation and Research Advisory Committee, Terry co-authored a benchmarking study of healthcare certification trends in the Journal of Nursing Regulation in the summer of 2021.
In 2019, Terry accepted a faculty appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Nursing at the University of North Carolina Greensboro School of Nursing, Nurse Anesthesia Concentration. His lecture focus has included pharmacology, pulmonary pathophysiology, and cell biology and pathophysiology.
