Elizabeth Merwin, PhD, RN, FAAN is the Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Innovation at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). Previously, Dr. Merwin was the Ann Henshaw Gardiner Distinguished Professor and Executive Vice-Dean at the Duke University School of Nursing. She is an experienced nursing leader and health services researcher who over the last 25 years has established a research program that aims to improve the health and health status of underserved and vulnerable populations. She consistently uses secondary data sets in her research and teaching and have extensive methodological expertise in designing and implementing research studies using large secondary health care databases for workforce studies and patient outcomes research. She has conducted several workforce studies regarding the mental health workforce, availability of health professionals in rural communities and the supply and demand for CRNAs. Currently, she is the Executive Director of the University of Arlington, Center for Rural Health and Nursing. Center partnerships aim to reduce the nursing shortage by educating the nursing professional workforce of the future access to health care.
