Jennifer Schmitt MS, CRNA, APRN, Immediate Past President and GRC/PR Chair- Oklahoma Association of Nurse Anesthestists
Schmitt lives and practices in Oklahoma City, OK. Schmitt is in her 5th year on the OANA board of directors. Schmitt was the 2019 recipient of the Ira P. Gunn Award for Professional Advocacy. She is the Immediate Past President of OANA and is also the chair of her state’s Government Relations and Public Relations Committees. Schmitt also serves on the AANA Government Relations Committe. Her contagious passion for advocacy and leadership during the 2018-2020 election cycle led to a successful advocacy campaign that resulted in two senate bills moving successfully through the senate and house health committees. Both bills are active and eligible for a floor hearing in the Spring of 2020. She continues to work with state leaders to remove superivison from CRNA practice in Oklahoma. She has also testified in front of the Oklahoma House Insurance Committee over both Rural Healthcare and Surprise Billing. Schmitt was appointed in November 2018 by the Oklahoma Attorney General to serve on the Oklahoma Commission on Opioid Abuse where she serves as a commissioner with other state leaders and legislators. Schmitt is responsible for designing and publishing OANA’s first election guide for pro-CRNA candidates for the 2018 cycle and created PR booklets for use in the Senate health committee and with members of the legislature. As a resident of the 5th Oklahoma Congressional District, she’s also serves on the Oklahoma County GOP Executive Committee representing the 5th Congressional District. A CRNA for more than 5 years, Schmitt earned her Master of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse/Mayo Clinic Health System, Franciscan Skemp School of Nurse Anesthesia in La Crosse, Wis., and her bachelor’s in nursing from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla. In addition, she received a bachelor’s in science in Biology from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She is a mother to Caitlyn (11) and Luke (2).
