Clinical instruction is essential to overall nurse anesthesia education and preceptors are the main facilitators of clinical teaching and student learning. CRNA preceptors are making an impact on the profession by mentoring and teaching future CRNAs, essentially modeling future generations of clinical preceptors. Improving clinical teaching strategies benefits the CRNA preceptor and student with more efficient learning, retained knowledge, and less stressful teaching/learning interactions in the clinical setting. This presentation aims to help CRNAs become more effective clinical teachers. Students may also benefit by hearing the preceptor perspective, learning strategies to facilitate their own learning, and techniques for seeking helpful feedback.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the clinical application of adult learning theories.
List skills preceptors can use to promote student learning and knowledge retention.
Discuss the differences in expected student performance and recommended teaching strategies for each level of experience.
