CRNAs now more than ever need to understand the importance of full scope of practice both as a responsibility and as a leader. Obstetric anesthesia offers a unique environment where the CRNA can work to full scope of practice even within a supervised model. This presentation outlines the importance of these concepts, reviews an actual installation of CRNAs as primary providers in a medium sized hospital, and discusses the leadership needed for this kind of team.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the skills and barriers to full scope of practice obstetric care.
Outline the steps necessary to create a safe environment.
Identify important leadership skills necessary for implementation of a full scope of practice plan for CRNAs.
