What is Resiliency and How Do You Build It? Developing Resiliency Among Nurse Anesthesiologists Utilizing the Community Resiliency Model (1 Class A CE)

Although stress, burnout, and substance use disorder can affect workers in all fields, nurse anesthesiologists are at particular risk. There is evidence documenting the relationship between stress and burnout and provider well-being in medical literature as far back as the 1970s; however, the focus on resiliency is a relatively new concept. The American Psychological Association defines resilience as “the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats or even significant sources of stress.” While this definition provides structure to the term, it does not reveal the complex nature of resilience or demonstrate how resiliency can improve mood and well-being. This presentation aims to develop a shared understanding of the impact of trauma and chronic stress on the nervous system and how resiliency can be restored and increased using the Community Resiliency Model’s skills-based approach to normalize the importance of mental health.
