This lecture will provide the novice or experienced anesthesia provider an update on diverse approaches to analgesic alternatives that will allow reduction in the primary use of opioids. Benefits to this technique will be explored including potential ill effects to the patient through dormant practice. Specific topics reviewed will include: common types of traumatic injury, differentiation of urgent and emergent strategies, oral and intravenous medications, beneficial regional techniques, complications of these strategies, post-operative management and implementation in practices without regional capability.
